Augusta Read Thomas
Augusta Read Thomas is the composer-in-residence of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and an assistant professor of music at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester. Her career as a composer is unique in the respect that her music is primarily orchestral (and has been since she was a student), unusual for most composers working today. Contrast and color are the defining characteristics of her music. Augusta Read Thomas was born in New York in 1964, the youngest of 10 children.
