Robert Ward
Robert Ward's artistic communication is on a different level, in the language of music: "I try to communicate something, very clear,to get an emotional response . . . I've failed if I don't achieve that." He was a bandmaster during the second World War, he studied with such American musical luminaries as Aaron Copland and Howard Hanson and he is one of the important connections to American music of the past 50 years. Robert Ward's music has rhythm, life and color, a brilliant reflection of our own musical heritage. He's a Pulitzer Prize winner (for his opera The Crucible, based on the play by Arthur Miller) and has a great legacy as an educator.
