Halle, Halle
Listener Submission: Most Unusual Wedding
Music Story
My wife and I were married in the same Minneapolis church
where we first met. Margaret prepares many of the visual elements
used for Advent, Lent, and Easter seasons. I play the congas
and other percussion for several different musical ensembles
at St. Stephens. As we planned our ceremony, we knew that
there needed to be percussion involved, together with some
of the musicians I play with. Our friend who was playing piano
called a drummer he's played with in the past, who then came
to the wedding with his brother who brought his own bongos.
Two drummers for the price of one.
While I felt strange sitting across the church from the musicians
that day, the final song, a traditional Caribbean "Halle,
Halle" was all the richer, even without me on the drums.
