See the Conquering Hero Come
Listener Submission: Wedding Music You Wish You Could Have Played

I was probably about 17 when I first heard "See the Conquering Hero Come" being played on The Morning Show. I decided, "I want this piece played as I walk down the aisle." It is so stately and moving, elegant, just the right tempo. Perfect.

When I was ready to do just that, my mother informed me that perhaps the title of the piece was a bit much for the occasion. Did I really want my family and guests to think that I had to "conquer" my husband to marry me?

We searched and searched for an alternative title; something anonymous like Opus 213. No avail. And so I had to settle for the old standard, "Jesu Joy of Man's Desire."

Pity. It is a great piece.
