It received 20 curtain calls at its 1930 premiere in Frankfurt, Germany, but after that single performance it disappeared from public view for nearly 70 years. On April 18, 1998 the Minnesota Opera in conjunction with the New York Opera Company gave George Antheil's Transatlantic its American debut.

Dizzying in its rapid-fire scene changes - almost 30 in Act 3 alone - this production presented Antheil's vision of a pre-Depression America swept up in the excitement and intrigue of presidential politics.

Internationally acclaimed opera star Sherrill Milnes appeared as Ajax.
