Odes to Joy home

It was in 1970 in Switzerland when we decided to get married as a 21-years-young bride and a 26-year-old groom with no money for a wedding. Just out of college, we worked in our first jobs. We bought a bed, rented a cozy one-bedroom apartment, and received a carpet. What else do you need when in love? Our parents could not afford to pay for a large wedding celebration. Who needs that when celebrating your heart's delight is monumental?

We took Friday off for the required civil ceremony with two witnesses. On Saturday, the nuclear families and some friends assembled in the small chapel of a castle to see us holding hands and say yes to a shared future. How surprised was everybody when suddenly beautiful voices were heard from the back, accompanied by guitar? For us it was as if heaven opened to send its blessing! My father had called the Salvation Army. Thus, God's soldiers carried sweet and strong tunes into our hearts and they never left us!
