Odes to Joy home

We were married on September 26, 1964, in a small rural church in southern Minnesota. I met my husband at our church - he was actually my Sunday school teacher. We were asked to sing a duet for our church. After the first practice he took me out for a root beer. We started dating and two years later were married.

Because we both enjoyed music and that is how our romance began, we chose to sing at our own wedding. In those days it was not a popular thing. I sang the "Song of Ruth" before I walked down the aisle. My father had died when I was 15 so I did not have him to take me down the aisle. We then sang "Because" together and then my husband sang "The Lord's Prayer." This always meant a lot to us and still does, as we still love music and sang for many years for weddings and funerals. People that came to our wedding still bring up the special memories they have of our singing at our wedding.

We continue to encourage our children and they have all been successful in school in the music areas.
